Piero Piccioni - Balletto Arturo

Nel 1972 Piero Piccioni realizzava questo Balletto Arturo, un’introvabile composizione di 40 secondi che fungeva da sigla nella compianta vecchia TV dei Ragazzi. Un documento raro, che credo sia uscito solo in produzioni RAI. Questo non è propriamente un 45 giri perchè, pur essendo un sette pollici, gira a 33. In the 1972 Piero Piccioni realised this Balletto Arturo, a very difficult to find composition made of 40 seconds that was the signature tune of our beloved past Kids TV. A rare document, that I believe was out only in RAI (Italian Broadcasting TV) productions. This is not a regular 45, because, even if it’s a seven inches, it spins at 33. Orchestra Silvano Silvi - Spring Rain

L’ultimo brano pubblicato (Red Redford Sound System), oltre ad essere definibile come esempio di euro funk, può altresì essere annoverato tra i primordi della vecchia scuola dell’italo disco. Anche questo Spring Rain dell’Orchestra Silvano Silvi, rappresenta una delle prime produzioni di italo disco fatte di sviolinate secche, nuovi suoni delle tastiere e voci melliflue che accompagnano le basi ritmiche molto regolari. Il brano che vi propongo oggi si ispira chiaramente a Shaft ed anche alla musica di Rocky per poi decollare verso sonorità un po’disco lounge dal ritmo molto chiaro e accomodante. Ascoltatelo QUI

This Spring Rain by Orchestra Silvano Silvi, represent one pf the first Italo disco productions, made of dry violent violins, new keyboards sounds and mellifluous voices that go with rhythmic bases very regular. Altra importante scoperta di euro funk. Figura misteriosa, sicuramente sotto pseudonimo, sembra che abbia all’attivo un paio di 45 giri e nient’altro. Un grande break di batteria all’inizio e un sapiente uso del clavinette avvicinano questo brano alle produzioni più funk della Mystic Mood Orchestra, ma è soprattutto la presenza come ospite di Gil Ventura al sax, che irrompe in maniera intensa, ricreando un’atmosfera ritmica che ci ricorda nomi come Manu Dibango e suoni deep Afro. Another important Euro funk find. Mysterious figure, for sure under a psedonym, rumors want he produced a coupple of 45 and nothing else. A great drum break at the beginning and a wise use of clavinette verges this music to the funkiest productions of the Mystic Mood Orchestra, but in particular it is the appearance of guest like Gil Ventura on sax, who breaks so intense, recreating a rhythmic athmosphere that remind us of great names such Manu Dibango and deep Afro sounds. I Longobardi - L'Ultimo Momento

Ultimo 45 giri per questa formazione proveniente da Legnano. Un inizio coraggioso che tende a sfociare in un beat melodico per poi prendere scorciatoie progressive. Ricalca un tipico modo di interpretare una volontà rock con la paura però di farsela nelle braghe, cedendo alle lusinghe del lato melodico e talvolta stucchevole della tradizione italiana. Nonostante tutto ritengo il brano in questione abbastanza valido grazie allo schema progressive che ci ricorda vari nomi, da Juri Camisasca ai Cressida ai Delirium e anche a Lucio Battisti Ascoltatelo QUI

Last 45 for this combo coming from Legnano. A brave beginning that’s trending to dissolves in a melodic beat to gain later progressive shortcuts. It follows a typical way to perform a rock will, fearing to fail and surrending to the flattery of melodic side and sometimes annoying of Italian music tradition. Una session a metà tra i suoni industriali di Cecil Leuter (Roger Roger) e Breathalyzer dei Cocktail Cabinet. Napoli Centrale - Simme Iute e Simme Venute

Grandi nomi per questo particolare ensemble. Una band che ha sapientemente miscelato il folk della tradizione partenopea con il Prog e con il Jazz. Una specie di specchio remoto italiano dei Soft Machine del secondo o terzo periodo che al pari degli Area hanno puntato molto sul carattere free della loro musica. Il risultato trovo sia eccellente. Il brano inizia con un coacervo di voci napoletane e una marcetta improvvisata per poi sfociare in un clamoroso prog rock jazz da lasciare senza fiato.
Questo 45 giri è uscito solo come promo ed entrambi i brani sono presi dal loro secondo album intitolato Mattanza. Ascoltatelo QUI

Great names around this particular ensamble. A band who wisely mixed that folk of Naples area with Prog and Jazz. A sort of remote Italian mirror of Soft Machine of their second or third period that, on the same way of Area, did bet on a free carachter of their music. I think the result is excellent. This track starts with some loud neapolitan dialect voices and an improvised march to be dissolved in a sensational prog rock jazz to let who hear almost breathless. This 45 was issued only as promo for radio stations and the sides are taken from their second LP called Mattanza. Listen HERE.

Another funk track. Session man from Rome, blind by birth, he collaborated with “all” Italian musicians and artists (Francesco De Gregori, Mia Martini, Patty Pravo, Mina, Ornella Vanoni, Lucio Dalla, Gianni Morandi, Riccardo Fogli, Rino Gaetano, Sergio Caputo, Giovanna Marini, Ron, Antonello Venditti, Flavio Giurato, Roberto Ciotti, Gigliola Cinquetti, Nada, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Mariella Nava etc.). Super track. Blaxploitation? Funk? Who is the Perez Prado who realize this killer? I don’t understand very well: Perez Prado at the end of the career? The son of Perez Prado? Perez Prado’s nephew? Probably his brother: Pantaleone Perez Prado. This track, as I said before, is absolutely killer, realized only in Italy, with this bunch of good Italian session men: Giancarlo Barigozzi, Tullio De Piscopo, Luciano Biasutti, Mario Rusca, Sergio Farina. Super pezzo. Blaxploitation? Funk? Chi è il Perez Prado che realizza questo brano? Io non riesco a capire: Perez Prado alla fine della carriera? Il figlio di Perez Prado? Il nipote di Perez Prado? Luky Pistoia - UFO

One among those many who tried to work it out and maybe they hit a track. Luky Pistoia, a Leone Di Lernia similar species, is one of theese. He lives his glory moment in 1974 with this track and the A side one called Buona Sera Signorina, that I avoid to publish, to be early forgotten. UFO is a very hard track with funky arrangements a là Perez Prado of the end of career, the one with Tullio De Piscopo on drums. Very good bass line and super percussions. One the most unknown Italian funky tunes. Listen HERE.

Uno dei tanti che ci hanno provato e che magari hanno indovinato un pezzo. Luky Pistoia, una specie di Leone Di Lernia, è uno di questi. Vive il suo momento di gloria nel 1974 con questo brano e con la A side Buona Sera Signorina, che evito di pubblicare, per poi finire presto nel dimenticatoio. Ufo è un brano molto hard con arrangiamenti funk alla Perez Prado dell’ultimo periodo, quello con Tullio De Piscopo alla batteria. Ottima linea di basso e super percussioni. Gil Cuppini Quintet - L'Uomo dal Braccio d'Oro

Kind bloggers, I have the pleasure to introduce, just to remain in a typical jazz ambient, a product of the end of the '50s, I figure very rare, even if this copy I found laying on the asphalt unfortynately is very scratched. This is a psychological, dramatic, exasperated spy jazz, faithful to many noir movies of the age. A little bit on Piero Umiliani and Krzysztof Komeda styles, G.C. Quintet get moving into international fields in an easy and relaxed way, heart of the fantastic line up with Oscar valdambrini on trumpet, Gianni Basso on sax, Renato Sellani on piano and Giorgio Azzolini on bass, apart from Gil Cuppini on drums. Gentili frequentatori, ho il piacere di presentarvi, tanto per rimanere in un ambiente prettamente jazz, un prodotto della fine degli anni 50, immagino piuttosto raro, anche se la copia che ho trovato a contatto con l'asfalto purtroppo è molto graffiata. Uno spy jazz psicologico, drammatico, esasperato, fedele a tanti film del periodo aventi ad oggetto tematiche noir. Un po' sullo stile delle composizioni di Piero Umliani un po' di quelle di Krzysztof Komeda, il G.C. Quintet si muove in ambiti internazionali in maniera alquanto sciolta e rilassata, merito anche della favolosa line up che vedeva Oscar Valdambrini alla tromba, Gianni Basso al sax, Renato Sellani al piano e Giorgio Azzolini al basso, oltre a Gil Cuppini alla batteria.
